I'm in Black River Project and we gig wherever the hell we can! Some towns have a good live scene some have absolutely no live scene whatsoever but you have to get up and do your thing... The way that we see it is that the day you start trying to pick and choose the "best" gigs is the day you start believing that you are "too good" to play places which is the slippery slope to an Axl rose attitude... and we've all seen that with the odd unsigned band we've gigged with before
 
Anyhoo... There are really good gigs and scenes out there so just keep at it!

I'm in a band too - we are called Machiavellian and we play death/thrash with sludge influences (Dying Fetus, Soilent Green, Crowbar, Morbid Angel, Kreator, Coroner, Misery Index are our main inlfuences). If anyone is interested we have a song on our page at http://www.myspace.com/mcvln

...yeh we gig pretty regularly usually (except at the mo, we are writing some new stuff) and I agree - there is nothing worse then travelling huge distances to recieve poor sound that doesnt represent your band fairly...and a poor turn out that doesnt justify the trip in the first place. We are based in Skelmersdale near Liverpool. Liverpool turn outs are always hit and miss I've found from experience...

I'm playing for two bands:

My names Michael. I'm a drummer formerly of Size and with my current band Chemical Threat and we're based out of Southend-on-Sea, Essex.

Having been playing live for 13 years i understand the frustrations people have in trying to get some good metal gigs and club nights together, especially when you travel across the country at great cost to play for 6 people and a dog. I know cos i've done it many times.

I have a few venue contacts in Southend and i can try and hook people up with gig swaps and a bit of local promotion for out of town bands.

Myself and my band mates would be very interested in being part of a network across the UK involving as many bands, promoters and venues as possible as something on that scale could only benefit the genre as a whole.

Hi there.
We had a convo the other night in some random pub in Yorkshire about the state of British Metal and what we can do to help it. We are noticing more and more promoters out there with the same intent on getting metal heard but no one is working or networking with each other - no one is thinking ohhh there is another Metal pub gig on the same night we want to do ours.. no one is thinking hmmm ok lets do a different night - they are just going ahead with the gig and spliting the crowd instead of working together for the same result. We are arranging a big meet in our area of promoters - journos - bands - labels - Fans - media etc and have us all talk about how we can get Metal more prolific in our area and how we can all pool our resources - contacts and leads to put on metal shows that will attract the fans.

Are there any bands on these message boards that are experiencing the trudge of travelling 4 hours to play to a few ppl and wondering what the hell has gone wrong and want to do something about this?

 
Yeah we have started a night at our local to combat this, we strictly have metal/stoner rock on and thats it. DJ plays metal and stoner rock all night. Its a good night and quite a few ppl turn up, you guys out there should try and copy this idea at youre local!

We're a five piece metal band from Shropshire and have gained positive feedback from our first EP entitled "In Cold Blood" and an exclusive live set played on Radio Shropshire's "Friday Night Gerbil" show.
Although the band is fairly new to the scene, all members of the band are veterans on stage and have toured the country with various other bands, we have a professional attitude towards the promotion of venues and are keen to work with promoters to make every event a success.

I'm in a Metal band thats based in Wakefield and there is so much metal round the Wakey area..... We're sorting gigs out with other metal bands.

Its great because we've ended up sorting out a mini festival at the Snooty Fox and it will be great playing along side some of the bands like:
Morbid Tyrant and the Mighty Evan.
