RE: Are you in a band ?

well it wasn't quite four hours but yes we did travel quite far out of town to play a pub, unfortunately another band from our local area was playing the same night in grantham a better known band. So there were very few people to watch and have a good ol' mosh. But my band do alot of local gigs in our town and have quite quickly become one of the most popular bands in our town, and the turn out is very suprising ok quite a few are young but its good to see that metal is still alive in this town i call home. Also the other local bands are there and always willing to lend equipment for gigs if need be. But as for breaking out of lincolnshire, i should imagine that should come soon hopefully. Unfortunately there really isn't anywhere to record around here and i don't know anyone with the equipment, so our demo's are very rough but hey its all good. We're all happy with the gigs we can get. i'm just rambling now anywho "Burn Your Idols" Check us out \/ \/ \/ \/ http://www.myspace.com/burnyouridols

The band i'm in (No Downfall) once went up to Birmingham and then Back near home to Milton Keynes. Birmingham's venue could support 400 people......only 45 people were there. Milton Keynes venue could support 200 people....there were people standing on each other when we started. In the space of 2 nights we'd gone from playing an empty to playing a packed out Sno!Bar. If anyone wants a night in Milton Keynes, then talk to Oz at beatdown promotions ( www.myspace.com/goldnblackarm), he's the soundest guy in the world and we love him to bits. Also if anyone feels like giving my band a quick rating we've got 4 new tracks up (without Vocals, we haven't got a decent enough microphone, but there high quality demo's). They were recorded in our Drummers conservatory, which is hard to believe when you listen to the quality of the recording. www.myspace.com/nodownfall Thanks (SPEAK TO OZ! BEST THING FOR MK METAL!)

We're struggling like hell to get a steady line up together and so gigging is only a distant goal at the moment and some sort of Networky type thing would help no end with that. It does seem that there is a lot of subscribing to Genres going on at the moment and "emo" can't work with "metalcore" and so on. Me and one of my mates have complete opposite opinions of metal but both love music and have started a little side project that is expanding to include Funk, hiphop, D'n'B, Medieval and Classical musicians all in the name of making good music! Its great as it gives me a chance to see/do something completely different, meet different people etc. At the end of the day we all have one thing in common we love live music. A lot more interaction between different groups would be huge and help put talented music (of whatever style) back where it belongs instead of slowly slipping away into total obscurity afterall I think no-one denies that the talent IS out there. I'd be up for helping out where ever I could!

Was in a band called Black Reverence, we did alright together for a while, but split up after we got bored of the whole 'rarrggh I'm pissed off' thing. Now I'm in a band called PartyCactus, still waiting to get the funds for a demo or two. Hardest part is always getting the band going at the start. Then its (kinda) clean sailing..

www.myspace.com/thehope We only have demos up at the moment. The demo's are taken from our recording sessions for our album (release date 15/08/08). Any feedback would be good. Supported The Wildhearts back in december and ahave also played with Hawkwind, Bad Manners and Johnny Panic.

Hello chaps, We're a shiny new band from the south trying to tour as much as possible for the rest of a long time. So any bands in a similar vein who need a support band or want to arrange a gig or gig swap with us then get in touch via our Myface page. Cheers and Beers Nya

ORIGINAL: mattMETAL! It's all emo's and punks where i live [:'(] I try my best to keep Metal alive though! I hear that. Where I live is sceney death metal or just little kids trying to play guitar... http://www.myspace.com/thespoonsuk - stupid name, but great music. Well I think so anyway, but I'm biased :] [EDIT] Didn't realise the original intent of this thread. Jezebel had a brilliant idea (and yes I know I'm a bit late to the party), and it's the same in the south as it is up there. Promoters aren't really doing enough. They leave it to the bands to promote and expect everyone to sell out just through word of mouth and Myspace, then penalise the bands themselves when the numbers aren't so good.[/EDIT]

If only I could find musicians with the same drive and vision for music that I have. Imagine Sikth-esque style of playing but instead of dissonance put melody in (More like 'In This Light', 'When the Moments Gone' etc). Thats my writing style really. I can only hope to find some people in the future

Me and a few mates have just started a band, no name as of yet and we're doing a talent show in school, crowd of couple hundred so should be cool. Not too sure on a song yet we were thinking Nirvana - Smells like teen spirit, but we'll see what happens, gotta' practice and train up my guitar skills first.

ORIGINAL: Jezebel Hi there. We had a convo the other night in some random pub in Yorkshire about the state of British Metal and what we can do to help it. We are noticing more and more promoters out there with the same intent on getting metal heard but no one is working or networking with each other - no one is thinking ohhh there is another Metal pub gig on the same night we want to do ours.. no one is thinking hmmm ok lets do a different night - they are just going ahead with the gig and spliting the crowd instead of working together for the same result. We are arranging a big meet in our area of promoters - journos - bands - labels - Fans - media etc and have us all talk about how we can get Metal more prolific in our area and how we can all pool our resources - contacts and leads to put on metal shows that will attract the fans. Are there any bands on these message boards that are experiencing the trudge of travelling 4 hours to play to a few ppl and wondering what the hell has gone wrong and want to do something about this? I tell you what mate, you couldn't be more spot on. Myself and a friend recently applied for funding from our local council to put on gigs in and around the area; we managed to get £5, 000 but have only had one successful gig (Fell Silent headlining) because of other promoters being sneaky and putting on gigs with bigger names to steal the crowd. I've said on a few occasions to them about working together to support the scene but they all seem far too interested in making a quick buck than they are getting the local talent to a point in their career where they can go places. I could definitely help out contacts-wise, i'm fortunate enough that my cousins and friends actually have a record label! Basick Records - get hold of me! amy-sin-gigs@hotmail.co.uk anything within my power, i'll give it a try!
The urge to satisfy is in the question

Yeah, Ive been trying this for some years now. We even got to the point where the council came along with a decibel reader and said "the drum kits too loud" Now we have been banned from playing in our town until we can significantly turn down the kit. With an acoustic kit and playing punk/metal, that makes it pretty hard. Ok, they say we can play at a venue, just not in our houses. That is fine. The problem is, in our backwater town, venues wont allow hire for bands. Only kids parties and bingo etc, they always say "what is it for" if I say a band practice they imediately say "no!!" And as for playing gigs! the only way we could draw in a reasonable crowd was to play through an agency that got us an audience. They take nearly all of the ticket sales so we are still paying extra in travel to play. Were not in it for money, its about doing what we love and entertaining people at the same time but when we cant physically afford to travel with our equipment and locally we cannot secure a venue, it is really stopping us from progressing any further. Its yet another obstical for performing artists. Like it isnt hard enough already!!!

The crowd groaned as soon as they heard the first riff. I gather loads of bands cover it. Great song and good luck but I would warn you about real classic songs like that, i hope you have a better crowd than us ;) please just dont make the set: teen spirit, johnny be good, song 2, stairway to heaven, some kind of greenday and sweet child of mine..pls pls pls, i swear Ive been to 10000 gigs with that as the setlist ;)

I have trouble even finding a band round my way there is so many people round here that only listen to things like rap that no one has an interest in starting up a metal band.

Yeah. I'm the drummer for The Other Side Of Faith (www.myspace.com/tosof) and the amount of gigs we've had to travel to and play to no-one is insane. We once supported The Damned and the turnout was less than 100! Arrrgh!

we (the band I was in) lost our drive partly based on the lack of a decent music scene around where I live, we were playing to the same set of friends (lovely of them to support us, granted) every time and being billed alongside indie bands who's fans were never going to be interested in us. London is the place to be, unfortunately. in fairness it was partly moving in different musical directions also. I'm a bass player and would love to be doing heavier stuff... but lack of networking opportunities mean I'm a bit stranded right now. My band was called Myriad Eye - technically still is as we're only on hiatus - it's female fronted heavy rock. www.myspace.com/myriadeye if you're interested in checking it out
