ORIGINAL: HullHellHalifax Hamish, I was reading last months Metal Hammer, and in the interview with Heaven & Hell they're asked which Doom bands they most liked. Geezer Butler said he liked My Dying Bride and Dio piped up "I like My Dying Bride. Excellent band." Dio has rocked for a long long time, and now it's time for him to pass the torch. How does it feel for such a legend to show his appreciation? It's a real honour when that happens - when we played in Athens this year, James Hetfield watched us from the side of the stage and that was a bit nerve-wracking!!

ORIGINAL: suicide_sticks i read that also, Nice the see Dio likes MDB also Hamish: what model was that jackson randy rhoads you were playing at download? im looking at buying one, was going to go for the ESP version, but after seeing the one you were playing, its so much nicer :-) and jacksons have a good record of being nice to play. Hey there buddy. I was playing a slightly customised RR5 - great guitar. I have a few Jacksons now and love all of them. Heartily recommended. Check out the RR24 too - I've got one of them coming soon and is cool if you also want a trem.

ORIGINAL: Hamish ORIGINAL: Jezebel What was the first gig you went to and what was the last one - not including one you were performing at. The first gig I went to was either saxon or Alice Cooper - I can't remember which was first; they were both at the same kinda time and were both great! The last gig I went to was seeing Severed heaven (an all-girl death/doom band from Leeds). The last high profile gig I went to was Bloodstock Open Air and had a great time! Did you see Severed Heaven at the Cooler, by any chance? It's closed down now, more's the pity, but I saw them there, it may well have been the same gig You may or may not remember, but I actually talked to you at that place, about a week before Download - you noticed my MDB shirt and introduced yourself, only then did I click that it was you, I was well chuffed

ORIGINAL: rogue_entity What did it feel like to be asked to play Download this year? To be honest, my initial reaction was one of surprise, then I was just pleased to see a good representation of british acts there at the festival, and then it was excitement coupled with still a degree of skepticism; is it really our audience, etc. but was very pleased with the end result. Would love to do it again.

It was great to see you guys (along with Orange Goblin, Paradise Lost, Fastway & Anathema) get some mainstream recognition - and hopefully it pushed a fair few new fans on to you guys too.

Only got into MDB last year after buying A Line Of Deathless Kings - what an album. Didn't get it at all when I first heard it, came home and listened to L'Amour Detruit before work, my first foray into Doom an' stuff. The tempo of it really threw me being used to faster thrashy bands, but after a few days I started getting into it, now many of the songs are top played on my mp3 thingy. Shame I missed you/them this year though, MDB/MH was just one of many difficult choices. Such is life. [&:] Anyways, question for Mr. Hamish: favourite song of the newest album?

Glad you like the album. My fave track has changed a few times over - it's probably either Thy Raven Wings or And I Walk With Them because I love that neck pickup lead tone from my Jackson RR in those songs! Sweet singing sustain... nice. If you want to check out some really cool live MDB footage from this year, then check out http://www.fabchannel.com/my_dying_bride for pro-recorded footage of our concert in Amsterdam this year.

Sweet, cheers for the link. Funny, those two and Love's Intolerable Pain happen to be my faves. L'Armor Detruit following close behind.
