If you've never made them before, I'd say buy about 10 bags. You usually need about 40 dreads in a set, and can get 6-8 dreads from a bag, but you might find that until you've got your backcombing technique sorted, you get through the hair a lot more quickly than that, and that some of the dreads you make don't turn out too well, so 10 bags would be enough for, say, 2 or 3 practice packs and then a set. When do you need them for?

EDIT: janinems, I would make dread falls for you, but I'm starting work in Guildford soon, living in a B&B, and probably wouldn't have the time or facilities to make them reasonably :(

I'm tempted to start making my own double ended dreads, I already have a few bundles, but they're uber skinny >.<! Still look sweet but god the time for installing.. T.T!

I would really reeeeaaaallllly like someone to make me some dread falls please! Whoever fancies this proposition please pm me and we shall discuss costs etc!

I would make them myself but I simple don't have enough time.

I'm in the process of starting my own hat/fascinator business. So maybe I will be able to return the favour in the not so distant future!

Just doing my Bloodstock dreads at the moment. Some of them are new, some of them are my Download purple ones, which I'm re-sealing. They're coming out pretty skinny (a reflection on my backcombing skills in June ;) ) but they're pretty sturdy. Having my hair cut tomorrow, then putting them in. :)

HH has gone completely down, and a group of the mods are working on a new forum that may be temporary, may be permanent. Will take a few days though.

If you had any transactions going on there then there's and LJ community:
                    http://community.livejournal.com/hh_sales/

Also info on the new forum will most likely be posted on there.

                      From the top:

Any tips on making the top look less sparse? Perhaps I just need to put more of the dreads on top.

                        Quick question.
I am trying a new hairdye (I normally use crazy colour capri blue, and I thought I would try SfX Blue haired freak)

As I have never used the dye before I thoguht I may aswel ask on here, do SfX dyes work better on wet or dry hair. I found crazy colour worked better on dye hair but it always says on the bottles to use on wet hair. Just wondered if it was different with special effects.

can really see the improvement in those :) i use smaller sections and more dreads on the top.

most dyes i've used say to use on dry hair. SFX should be used on dry.

For girls (and the occasional guy) NOTHING will be better than a good set of synthetic dreads, HOWEVER don't shell out 70 odd quid for them, they are actually easy as hell to make and the hair, being the only thing you really need to buy will cost you a tenner at most for shoulder length dreads. There are a million and one tutorials on the internet to make them, failing that, gimme a PM and I'll let you know.

BTW sally's sells the hair in brown and black shades, so you don't have to hunt on the net for it ;)

I made a full head set for about 12 quid, never in the amount of time I had again though. My fingers nearly died when they were eventually finished and installed! The girl I did them for wasn't entirely as grateful as I hoped but ho hum >_____>

Met a first year on my course yesterday who was wearing some, they were burgundy, browns, and a few watermelon mixed in. Very nice. She did them with a hairdryer too! I'm gonna show her how to make loose extensions when she takes em out

IShe did them with a hairdryer too!

I actually find hairdryers uber easy to seal with, they just make the dreads uber itchy and velcro-y lol.

I really want pink dreads for download next year, is it bad i'm thinking about it already lol!
