I don't really rate Clark as a left back.

Me neither to be honest, but Stephens is untested and Warnock isn't even League 1 material.
Pep If you finish above us, I'll eat my shoe and wear a Villa shirt for the entire season. That's how confident I am.

Ever since the QPR debacle, our defence has look pretty good IMO. Even Warnock and Hutton.

Hutton played very well against Fulham, some had him down as our Man of the Match. Must admit, Warnock wasn't exactly terrible either. Be ace if the pair of 'em push on from here and actually play well regularly. Although I'd hate it if they play well for a little while, convince us not to replace them in the summer, only for them to go shit again after the window shuts.

So what about the news of Brett Holmans arrival this summer? Also in the news, quotes from McLeish that he wants Pogrebnyak this summer on a freebie also.

I said my piece on this Brett Holmans chappy in another thread but basically, he's 27, not getting younger, only scored 6 goals in the Dutch league. I'll be happy if he sits on the bench or plays an Edna Stevens role and never makes an appearance in first team football I'd rather see Weiman getting the games than this guy. Weiman's goal was pretty god da mn sh it against Fulham but he showed the instinct to follow the ball and and managed to get himself into that position to score the goal. As long as Bent's out I'm all for giving him a start and giving him the chance to impress. He's young and will want to prove himself, maybe he'll inspire some of the others to get their arses in gear. Maybe play Agbonlahor and Weiman upfront or something. We've got nothing to play for apart from survival but I don't see us being close to the drop at the end of the season as we're 10 points off 18th I think and I doubt we're going to see out the rest of the season in the fashion we've seen the previous part of the season. I think Dave said he'd like to see the young lads given a run out as soon as we're safe from the drop. In lighter news... http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/news/news/aston-villa-earn-top-equality-award.html Hurahhhhh!

Well Holman is a winger not a striker so not scoring goals is fine by me. He seems pretty experienced both in Europe and international level and 27 is peak age for a footballer. I'll reserve judgement till we see him in action. We haven't had much luck with foreign signings these last few years. He'll either be a Carew and be an integral part of the team or a Makoun and be in and out.

I can't see him being on a huge wage, so no worry if he doesn't hit form, I can see him being rotated with Charlie and Albrighton. Hopefully he won't be getting played in the centre behind the striker, as I would prefer Bannan, Ireland and Johnson got their chance to shine there.

Not heard/seen anything of him. Also keeping in with the Johnson theme, there are rumours we're after Andy Johnson in the summer. And Danny Guthrie, both on freebies. Wouldn't mind either of them as squad players, but I wouldn't want them to be replacements for anyone. Pogrebnyak as well. He's been alright in his couple of games for Fulham.

He will be the next player to break into the first team I think, certainly next in line but he plays the centre/behind the striker which we already have a few of. Weirdly enough he signed a contract extension earlier today!

What's the crack with Pogrebnyak rumors? He only signed till the end of the season or something?

Nah, he is there on contract till the end of the season. Hopefully we can sign him up as I think Bent might be heading out.

Embarrassing. Worst Villa team I've ever seen, and I wouldn't be surprised if we DO go down. We need to rely on at least three of the teams below us being shit, which is depressing in itself.

Really, you should have never employed McCleish, he was so not the right man for the job.

Not only did we appoint him when he wasn't the right man for the job, we also decided it was a great idea to pay our local rivals £3million for the plank. Astonishing. £3million for a manager when we can barely afford free transfers. That, is why he isn't already sacked. Very true Jamie, we really are a pathetic team at the minute.

I haven't really seen much from the Arsenal game bar Arteta's goal, but I'm guessing we were very rusty having not played for 2 weeks, although even if we win against Chelski we won't move up places! We need to get rid of the older players badly who are just collecting their check. Their isn't a single youngster who isn't giving their all when they play, unlike a few of the others.
