I really quite enjoyed this book, with other 40k novels sometimes the authors can go off on a tangent and not stay focused on the main story but with these short stories they don't have the space to go on long winded descriptions of things so that instantly made it easier to read, and the pace of some of the short stories are better then other full books in the Horus Heresy series. Also the stories were generally a lot more interesting and gripping then others in the series.

Felidae (book 2), by Akif Pirinçci. I'd give it a solid 9/10. Keeps you reading, plenty of twists and turns, and it's fairly surreal. Conceptually, it sounds a little 'fluffy', and maybe a bit childish, but it's far from it. I'd definitley recommend it. I wasn't even remotely interested in detective/thriller novels until I read the first book.

The last 10 seconds - Simon Kernick 8/10 Started off a bit slow and slightly confusing if I'm honest. Picked up about 1/4 of the way through though and ended up being pretty bloody good. The ending wasn't too predictable either, which is always a bonus.

ElusiveReach, you and me both. 'Game of Thrones' 9/10, more of a alternative history title than a straight out fantasy title with very little mention of magic, loved it however there was a vast array of characters which took me a fair few hundred pages to recognise. Pullman - 'Good man Jesus and the scoundral Christ' a strange one as its hardly worth buying as its easily readable in a couple of hours but it is very clever and a very interesting twist on the well known fables 7/10 Ken Follett - Fall of Giants 9/10 an absolute epic which explains events leading up to and including world war 1 amidst a story which brings together a host of characters from different cultures and backgrounds.

Geomancer (Book 1 of The Well of Echoes) - Ian Irvine... A nice story, took me a little while to get into, but once I did it was good. Would give it an 8/10....looking forward to reading the rest of the books in the series.

Snow - Orhan Pamuk 4/10 Just couldn't get into it - found it very hard going and don't think I really have enough knowledge of the culture and religious tensions in Turkey to completely enjoy it.

In the shadow of Gotham - Stefanie Pintoff 4/10 Took me forever to read this. The entire time I was waiting for it to get interesting and it never did. "The atmospheric and gripping tale of a haunted man who must search for a killer while on the run from his own demons" gripping my arse! Towards the end I didn't even care who the killer was. Just wanted to finish the book so I could move onto a decent one.

Homage to Cataonia - George Orwell. 8.5/10 A really great, first hand account of one of the most overlooked conflicts of the 20th century. The reasons why it is overlooked are still as suspect as ever, but it won't change. This book give some much needed depth to the history.
RIP Joe "You say the hill's too steep to climb.

Horus Heresy: Mechanicum. 7/10, I wasn't expecting a lot from this book but I'm glad I read it, as a 40k nerd it was good seeing mars during the crusade, reading the storys of adepts and their forges and especially reading about the titan legions... some parts of the plot seemed pretty rushed and there were a couple of plot holes at the end (that will probably be filled in the rest of the series) but the Titan battles certainly made up for it!

The Walking Dead; Days Gone Bye 9/10 It was surprisingly good, and I wasn't sure I'd enjoy the 'graphic novel' side of things. I did.

Judge Death: Boyhood of a superfiend. 8/10, I haven't read a 2000AD comic since I was a kid but this collected graphic novel was pretty awesome, the artwork is a bit dated compared to modern g.novels but still really well done and the actual pencil on paper drawing compared to touched up on a computer adds more atmosphere to the story. For the emperor, 10/10. The first book of an omnibus of Ciaphas Cain novels and they're shaping up to be some of the best 40k novels I've read! The book is from Cains memoirs and showing his own thoughts of being made out to be a hero of the imperium where in his own mind he's only looking for a quick escape to be as far away from danger as possible, and although in his own mind he thinks he's a weasel his actions do actually make him the hero of his reputation.

The Informers by Bret Easton Ellis A rather odd novel which consists of many different short stories, but really satires the high end lifestyle of LA rather well. Very dark in it's humour but that is what is really expected of Ellis. 7/10

Animal Farm by George Orwell - 10/10. Very short (100 or so pages) but very well written and gets it point across very well. I think the length is one of it's strengths - long enough to explore the main plot but short enough to not distract from it. It's rightly considered a classic.

Jigsaw Man - Paul Britton. 8/10. It's non-fiction, based around his career as a forensic psychologist, which is what interested me first of all. It's not quite as detailed in some of the cases as I'd hoped, but definitely gives a good insight in to his career and some of the cases he worked on.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - 7/10 Was an odd book this. I understand the sporadic nature of the writing and lack of plot, but I have to say it annoyed me in places. Other than that, unique in the writing and it's subject matter does make you think.
