Stphe King is wrtiting a Sequel To His Book The Shining Called "Doctor Sleep" Which Will follow the character Danny (From the First Book) who is now 40 years old  and His Gift whilst he works in a hospital for the Terminally Ill

Acclaimed author and Entertainment Weekly columnist Stephen King (I love his articles on movie theater candy, seriously) announced that he is working on a sequel to arguably his most popular novel, The Shining.
 
While King was promoting his new Under the Dome story in Toronto, he told fans and reporters that his current project is a story entitled Doctor Sleep.
 
King believes that the first novel never explained what happened to young Danny and his super-cool psychic powers and that the events at the Overlook Hotel left the lad with “emotional scars.”
 
“Danny is now 40 years old and living in upstate New York, where he works as the equivalent of an orderly at a hospice for the terminally ill,” says King. “Danny’s real job is to visit with patients who are just about to pass on to the other side, and to help them make that journey with the aid of his mysterious powers. Danny also has a sideline in betting on the horses, a trick he learned from his buddy Dick Hallorann.”
 
Stephen King’s 1977 novel, The Shining, was adapted to film by Stanley Kubrick for screen in 1980.

Well THIS will suck big time. Hasn't written a good book since Green Mile.

Never been able to read any Stephen King, his style bores me to death. Still, it's been a year or two so maybe I'll read The Shining and get this when it comes out if I make it to the end...

This came out a few months ago.  Personally dont think it'll ever happen, i'm all up for giving it a chance if it dose though.  He went through a bit of a rough patch from 'Insomnia' onward, but he's starting to go back to his roots a bit.

On a side note, if any of you are after some good old 'orror, check out his son's material, who didnt tell any of the publishers he was King's son, only came out after his first few books were out.  His name be Joe Hill, and it reads like early King...good stuff!

Really need to read more books.

I love The Shining and will def give this a try, but i won't have my hopes up too much because his more recent books have done nothing for me.

I love the shining (the book, not the film - its a good film but its not really the shining) so i'll give this a try, if it happens.

I don't think he ever did really go through a rough patch. 'Insomnia' was the first King book I ever read and I loved it. The Dark Tower series was fantastic. Currently reading Cell and enjoying it. Meh, might just be me, but I don't think he has ever written anything that wasn't at least enjoyable. Apart from Rose Madder. I put that down after she CLIMBED INTO A PAINTING.

It's kind of a mixed bag in my opinion. On the one hand, is an excellent book Shining, Stephen King is an excellent writer. On the other hand, since a car accident were not written by King as great as it was. He may end up just messing this command. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Sequels tend to be terrible especially when it comes to horror books.  I haven't read any of the more modern King books.  Though am currently re-reading The Stand, defintely his best book even if it takes ages to read.

Stephen King is hands down my favourite author, and his sequel books tend to have worked well. On the other hand, his writing style has become sloppier recently... In any case, it'll still probably be immensely readable, if not quite comparable to earlier works.

Stephen Kings earlier work was better I think but I always have to read any new book he writes just to see what its like so I would definately read it.  I would be interested to read his sons books actuallt might go and have a gander on amazon.

this sequel sounds like a good spin off I'm defiantly interested in reading.

I'll not say much about Stephen King as I'm a huge fan. Love his books but can understand why some folk don't like him - he can go on a bit .
 
On Joe Hill though - awesome writer. Heart Shaped Box was good, really enjoyed it. Then I read his last one, Horns - even better! Won't say anything about it, just read it.

I'd like to say this is going to suck, but it won't, it'll be amazing, scary as hell though.

he should be focusing more on the next dark tower book, and less on anything else
