Graphic Novels/Comics

So what do you guys read and recommend? I started on Preacher and have yet found anything to beat it. Currently enjoying the hell out of Batman. The Killing Joke, Dark Knight Returns, A Serious House..., Haunted Gotham. Even though I'm new to it all, I must say that Arkham: A Living Hell is vastly unnoticed. Stunningly entertaining. Started on the first book of Hellboy and for all the Lovecraft adoration in me, I just couldn't enjoy it that much. Read some of the mandatory Moore stuff. V for Vendetta, Watchmen, currently working my way through From Hell.

I quite fancy giving From Hell a read at some point. I think I have managed to work through my backlog of books/graphic novels so some fresh ones might be worthwhile.

I'm just in the middle of reading the Fables series at the moment. I'd highly recommend Transmetropolitan as a fantastic series to read

I tend not to read many 'superhero' type graphic novels, although i did enjoy all of the underboss themed daredevil ones from a few years back.... Oh and 'Superman: Red Son' is brilliant... Graphic novels that aren't superhero based i've really enjoyed recently have been Maus by Art Spiegelman, Blankets by Craig Thompson and little nothings the curse of the umbrella by lewis trondheim
What if the hokey cokey really is what its all about? When the ball hits the net who the f**ks Darren Bent? Asamoah

My favourites would be Watchmen, V for Vendetta and Sin City. Read a lot of Batmans, would highly recommend Year One, Long Halloween, Dark Victory and Dark Knight Returns, just starting to get into the other DC heroes too so any recommendations would be great. Just read Superman: Red Son and thought it was fantastic. Have recently read a lot by Mark Millar, got into his work after checking out kick ass after I seen the film and loved the book even more. Nemesis and Superior are even better I think, and both are being made into films. At the moment I'm on a Walking Dead phase, after the 1st series of the tv show was brill I have been steadily making my way through the books and really enjoying them, plenty twists and turns to keep you hooked.

Walking Dead is fantatsic and without a doubt the best graphic novel series ive read. Volume 14 is due out in july and thats far too long to wait. Preacher is great as well although i would have to admit that the last couple of volumes dont quite match the high standard of the first few. Still a great read even if Gareth Ennis's over-the-toppness can be a bit over-the-top. And i'd also give the thumbs up to 'Y - the last man'. But one of my current favourites is IDWs version of the Transformers. Anyone who's picked up LAst stand of the wreckers' knows what im talking about!

Kabamf I quite fancy giving From Hell a read at some point. Recommended!!! It is a tough read but its worth it. Its worth after reading each chapter go back and reread it while following the appendex at the back for each chapter. Lots of good points, things to look out for and some educational information in there.

If you want superhero comics, in my opinion, DC are always better, Batman (all the ones recommended above. Also the SinCity ones are really satisfying! I never got into Watchmen, I thought the film was far better than the novel! I have all the Preacher ones too but they're certainly not my favourites. Blackest Night and Brightest Day are really good at the moment and easy to get hold of because of the film. Supergirl will always be my favourite Graphic Novels as they were my first.

To choose a top five from the top of my head that, IMO, should be essential reading for anybody who's interested in Graphic Novels; Preacher Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Watchmen Sweet Tooth The Boys Also, DC's 'Flashpoint' mini-series has just started, well worth a read!

On a serious note, try Sandman, and I've got a real soft spot for thr Swamp Thing stuff by Mr Moore.

Fallen in love with Transmetropolitan. Need to get the second volume of Hellblazer. Wonderfully gritty looking. It's like reading Godflesh in parts.

Just like to say that DC have confirmed a reboot of all their comics. So instead of trawling through all the wiki's in order to get back-stories etc, you can now go and buy the first editions etc starting end of August
Incoming: Bon Jovi - Reading Festival - Soundgarden - Alter Bridge - Bowling for Soup - Avenged Sevenfold

Just to put it out there, the new issues of Screamland are fantastic (I'd say even better than the first trade paperback).

Right, a monumental virtual handshake to the person that kind find me a copy of Hellblazer: The Devil You Know for £14 or less. Can only find the new versions up for pre-order. A lot of sites are selling copies for £40-80. :|
