Next season is going to be amazing. Can't wait to see Joffreys reaction to the Bannermen pronouncing Robb king of the North.
The exhibition beyond the wall is going to be great as well.

A good episode I think. As an ending it wasn't very satisfying but I suppose it is unfair to treat it as an ending. Certainly as a lead into the next series there is lots to look forward to. As I am yet to read the books I can not be sure if it's the character or the actress but Daenerys is dull as f uck; in one episode she manages to euthanise the most intersting  part of her story and "give birth" to dragons assuring she'll be prominent in the next series. Looking forward to Jon beyond the wall and Arya joining Robert's bastard. Also credit to the actor playing Joffrey for making me want to bitch slap him every time he opens his mouth, could quite easily have a decent career playing dicks in films me thinks.

Apparently some parts of the series finale were grafted from the start of the second novel to get a lead in to it. Can anyone clarify which bits were put in earlier than in the books?

Daenerys Targaryen (Khalessi) is my favourite character and she was in the books, I'm really happy with the way they've done the season, it stays quite close to the book (other than the overhaul of naked women to gain attention) and yes the ending of the series did overlap from the end of book one to the beginning of book 2. it's been a while since I read them but I think it was from them leaving the wall.

Nothing significant, it's been a while since I read the first one but I didn't notice anything particularly glaring.

In any case it doesn't really matter as quite a few of the storylines are running simultaneously

Enjoyed the finale, I wasn't really disapointed with it, the two episodes before were a hard task to follow, but I like how it ended, such a long wait now though...

Best thing I've seen on tv for ages. Cannot unsee Maester Pycelle's transparent robe, ew. What was that scene all about anyway, just a excuse to shoehorn in some more tits and pubes.

Made the mistake of watching Camelot on the weekend, what a load of retarded shit in comparison.

It was designed to show that the whole "frail man" image was a complete performance and that he was as much of a liar as others. Naturally it was a possibility to show nudity so HBO obliged as it always does

Wasn't it to show that he's become senile? With the delicious irony that he's talking about the madness of the previous king?

It struck me mostly that it was delivering a bit of an alternative view to the utter bastard Aerys II had been presented as so far, greying things up a bit from the black and white "Mad King" through the eyes of someone with a more objective take on things and making the Targaryen's a little more sympathetic again, like Aemon's chat in the previous episode. Though there was quite a lot packed into it for such a short, simple scene, that caught me as it's primary function.

I thought it was based around him claiming to have been around for years and knowing kings as well as he does, and yet he really has no clue claiming Joffrey could be a great king, when he's already done some fucked up ****.

Personally reckon it was a shortcut to show that his entire persona is mostly an act - he's not nearly as frail or doddering as he makes out in public.

Neil whilst you may be right, not really sure what the point of "softening" Aerys' image would be as he's never presented as anything but an out-and-out mad, cruel bastard in the books.

Bit late to the party, but just watched the whole series in 2 days.  Pretty awesome stuff.  Liking Tyrion for his wit and Petyr Baelish just for being a bit sneaky and devious.  Needs more Bronn, though.

13 Emmy nominations. Only one for acting mind, Dinklage for best supporting actor in a drama.

Also up for best drama but so are Boardwalk Empire and Mad Men, so it's no chance.

Also late to the party, watched the whole thing in about 3 evenings, loved it so much. I love Sam, and Jerome Flynn's character. Dudes. Disappointed with how the Danerys (sp?)/Khal Drogo storyline ended up I really liked those two. Haven't read the books but I'm on the case now! Have ordered the first one already. Can't wait for more.

Totally deserved too. A little surprised none of the other cast got a nomination though.

To be honest though, whilst the average standard of acting was superb, there weren't really any absolute standouts . Sean Bean was awesome, but he can do gruff + northern in his sleep so it's hardly pushing his boundaries...

Neil, Margaery is the only one out of that lot that I really can't see. Brienne is pretty good I think (possibly with some makeup to make her a bit uglier), Melisandre needs to get...redder, and Stannis needs to get that head more or less shaved and he'd be perfect.

The girl playing Brienne is 6'4", which I guess is a big part of it, I didn't expect her to be ugly given what Dinklage is Tyrion. I think she's the best of them.

I kinda saw Melisandre as being a fiery haired version of the woman who played Mirri Maz Duur and Stannis I thought should look more like his big brother. Though obviously Robert wasn't anything like the massive cat he was in the books. He should have been like a fat Sandor Clegane.

All that said, I don't get much hung up on what characters look like on films/TV so long as the characters come across properly. I'm keen to see how Tyrion looks after the Battle of the Blackwater, though.

This. The book is pretty detailed about the wound and would be good to see how gory they actually make it.

I'm about a third of the way through book 1 following watching the series. I'd be pleased I think if it had been the other way around - the series seems to have stayed very true to the book, there's very little that has been left out. So far, of course!

Looking forward to approaching it the other way around for the next series - book first!

Sadly I think there's a genuine chance of him being a Robert Jordan and dying before it's over.

Re:New HBO Series "Game Of Thrones" - 09 August 2011 23:09
I have just read a theory I really like about Jon Snow's parentage. It's about ideas for the last two books but there's no spoiler in it, we know all the information below at the end of book/season 1.

That he's not Ned's son at all but Lyanna and Rhaegar's. We know Lyanna made Ned promise her something on her deathbed (though don't know what she was dying from) - maybe childbirth killed her and the promise was to look after Jon.

Quite liked it as an idea, anyway. Would open up loads of drama in the final books if Jon had a strong claim to the throne and could end up supporting Dany's because of his position in the watch.

Yeah, I've been following that theory for a while on westeros.org. It would explain a lot of little things that don't seem to line up right when you stop and think about them a bit. And we know that Rhaegar and Lyanna went off together (although Robert says he kidnapped her, that probably isn't true, given everything that we know about Rhaegar and everything that we know about Robert, it doesn't really seem 'in-character' for Rhaegar to do that, whereas it is entirely like Robert to see things how he wants, or perhaps not wanting to lose face by having the love of his life going off with the prince, so saying she was kidnapped).

It certainly fits.

Check out the Tower of the Hand website, it's got shedloads of stuff like this, some of which has actually been confirmed in Dance with Dragons (.e.g SPOILERS ALERT Brandon Rivers being the 3-eyed crow etc)

But yes, it's a good theory. Others are that Jon himself is actually Azor Azhai, that he's the third head of the dragon (the others being SPOILERS Daeny and Rhaegar) and so on. Interesting stuff, now we just have to wait another 6 years for the next book
