I thought they had a lot of shit to 'cram in'? Nothing substantial happened. Apart from Arya's storyline. I might have to rewatch it. I am tired.

Yeah. Solid episode but not a great deal of plot. I suspect a whole series of cliffhangers in the final episode. Arya has to see Jaqen again (ep 10 going by the titles). Jon and Qhorin. Dany in the HotU (hopefully with the visions but I'm skeptical). I take it the Bastard of Bolton isn't going to turn up until season 3. Blackwater preview looks ace. I don't think the chain will feature though. Probably for the best.

Chain hasn't been mentioned, bit lame because it really showed Tyrion's ingenuity of seeing off the siege.Probably be mostly Bronns point of view with the other characters conclusions coming in at the end.

SPOILER The chain would look absolutely absurd on tv though. On a a movie budget you might be able to make it look reasonable, but no one can do 200 ships on fire at full pelt tearing themselves to pieces on tv money. It'd end up looking dreadful. Tyrion will have come up with some other trap involving the 'pigsh it' (wildfire).

Yeah it's probably not worth the risk if it'll look shabby,a load more emphasis on the Wildfire then. It could be a decent character defining episode if done right, only qualm with it is the director (who was called in last minute to do the ep). Currently Downloading a Total War Mod;Westeros Total War.

Really? I thought it was severely underwhelming. It paints Davos and Stannis as total, total imbeciles and it just kinda trundles along when it should be explosive as fu ck. I thought it was a chance to redeem a pretty weak series but I was massively disappointed. I'll watch it again tonight at my pals on a big telly. Maybe that'll help. But when an episode is full of fire and fighting and its finest moment is Bronn and his men singing The Rains of Castamere...

Well I suppose the fighting was a bit rapidly edited. But there were so many Bronn and The Hound and everyone else badass wicked lines. I suppose a lot of my enjoyment of this one was predicated on the fact I had no idea what was going to happen next, perhaps not as enjoyable for someone who's read the books. I found the whole thing pretty tense, it really benefitted from not having any of the other stuff distracting it. There's some spoilers here: I disagree about Stannis and Davos though, I mean it's kind of a shame that the episode was mostly from the other side, but they didn't seem to be acting foolishly in anyway (except for the guys son). It was interesting seeing Stannis let loose once he'd lost the more cautious Davos. Did it make him an imbecile? Not really, they probably would have breached the castle if Gandalf hadn't turned up. Plus Cersei going all lady macbeth was entertaining. "F uck the king"

The happily sailed up to a single ship and Stannis, a king and general jumped over the battlements unsupported. These are incredibly stupid moves. Brave and befitting most fantasy epics, but royally out of place here. I'm enjoying it now on my second viewing but I'm still a long, long way from blown away. All the good scenes are the ones with no fighting... I guess Neil Marshall, who's made a career of rubbish action sequences, was the wrong choice.

I was disappointed that so much got left out of the Blackwater episode. It was still good but a lot got left out. I don't really want to say which exact bits for fear of spoiling the books for people. But there was something in the battle that wasn't obvious enough for me (involving Loras), and the scene with Sansa and The Hound was very disappointing. Also, I thought the battle was during the day in the books? It at least started during the day didn't it? I might have to re read it. I guess they probably did it to make the wildfire look more impressive. Also, forgive me if I'm wrong but have they actually clarified why the hound freaked out? I know from reading the books but I don't think I would have really understood had I not. There was some great acting in this one though, particularly Cersi, The Hound and Bronn.

Personally I thought the episode was tremendous, really enjoyed the fighting scenes and the destruction from the wildfire. Yeah the actual battles could've been better but they're still operating on a TV budget, I'll make do with occassional shots of heads being spliced in half. Gotta echo the sentiments that the other scenes stole the episode though. Cersei in particular was a joy to watch.

I thought it was a good episode really. Pretty well done. Granted they could have explained a few events better. This may be kind of spoilerish: But the person riding the white horse at the end was someone wearing Renly's armour. In the books it's explained that it spooks Stannis' troops as they think it is Renly returned from dead. They also didn't really explain that the Tyrells have allied themselves with the Lanisters. Though that could be in next weeks episode I guess. The Hound fled the battle because he is terrified of fire. I thought that was pretty obvious though. I actually can't remember the events of the book after the Battle of the Blackwater. So next weeks episode is actually going to be a bit of an unknown for me. Maybe they'll introduce a few of the early plot elements from book 3. Well it's been a good season. Not as good as the first season, but then the second book wasn't as good as the first - so it's been no surprise. Book 3 though.......oh boy!!

They told the full story of why Sandor is scared of fire in season one at The Hand's Tourney (Littlefinger tells Sansa, rather than Sandor himself). It probably should have been kept back for season two like it was in the books so it was fresher in people's memory.

For people who want to read a bit more about the Battle of the Blackwater, maybe read this. http://awoiaf.westeros.or...ttle_of_the_Blackwater It's based on the books, so a few details will differ from the series. But it should give you a bit more insight into the events that led to the battle. It's spoiler free until the Aftermath section, and even then it's only very minor spoilers. But avoid reading that if you don't want anything spoiled for you.

Ok, you did all the spoilers for me :P I knew what was going to happen at the end, so I was expecting it - but even then I could easily have missed the fact that Loras was wearing Renly's armour. I'm pretty sure we haven't EVER seen him (Renly) wearing a helmet in the series so far, only ever that little crown thing with the horns. Also, with it being Loras that took the helmet off I thought maybe it wasn't the right bit (cause in the book it is Garlan, who I guess is going to be left out of the series now.) nfe LisaOrestea I was disappointed that so much got left out of the Blackwater episode.
