Err... I think so.  I certainly chuckled several times before the end - but that might just be me.

Is "A Serbian Film" banned here? I went into CEX the other day, and they had about 4 copies of it at child height level

Not banned no, massively cut though I think, well, those two scenes for certain.

Man, I've been lazy watching films recently, I've had "Ju-On: White Ghost" and "Ju-On: Black Ghost" from Lovefilm since February, and still haven't watched them.

From what was said at the time, I believe about 4.5-5 minutes was cut from the UK release.

I don't know if any of you guys will care, but I got this in the post today. Its the ORIGINAL 1977 one-sheet poster for 'Last House on Dead End Street'. Who knows what glorious Grindhouse theater this would of been displayed in back in the day:

Yeah, I sort of value it more than my own life. Finding a frame is a bitch though because the poster size (approx. 68x104 CM) hasn't been used in years and years. I think its roughly the same size as the old UK QUAD posters.

That looks awesome mate.  I haven't seen the restored version of LHODES (the version I saw looked terrible which kind of detracted from the film, so I've made a note to grab a copy

Hahaha. Most of them!

Try and get the Barrel edition of Last House... man. Its hard as hell to find, but better than the 'Tartan' release. Still need to get the CMV release, but I don't think I'll ever find that =(

Cheers fella.  I know you're not a fan of downloads but there's an 8Gb full DVD9 rip of the CMV version sitting on Cinemageddon: http://cinemageddon.net/details.php?id=82930
If you want it but aren't registered on the site let me know and I'll see if I can sort something for you

Still haven't watched that film I downloaded, Liggy... "Begotten" was it?

Need to get on that. Anyway, Picturehouse is touring Bava/Argento's Demons. Worth going?

We saw the new BD version of Demons a fortnight ago at Dead by Dawn.  It's a gloriously stupid flick that's definitely worth a watch.

The only thing the CMD version has different is an extended version of the bonus feature that has Roger Watkins being interviewed. God knows why the Barrel release cut that down?!

Yeah, check out Begotten. I've already spoke about it enough to tell you why though =P.

Demons is fantastic! Have you seen the sequels, Hud? Part 3 I remember incredibly bad, and not even in a good way =(. I think its called 'The Orge'?

Demons is one of the films I always remember scaring me when I was really little, proper nasty facial prosthetics that they don't do these days. I've seen the second one, but not the third, I don't think, thankfully it seems. Dario Argento has made some fine films aye.

Speaking of films that game me nightmares when I was a young'un, there was this film called the Unnamed or Unnameable that gave me nightmares for weeks. It's probably utter shit, but for some reason it creeped me right out when I was a wee lad.

What films do you guys remember scaring the shit out of you when you were kids?

Suspiria is one of my all time favourites. Best score ever. One of the three ballet films I'd recommend to anyone (Black Swan and The Red Shoes being the others)

Night of the Living Dead **** me up when I was about 13, one of those sneak downstairs to watch while the family are sleeping. The central heating kept me awake all night.

Society is ****ed up. I was about 19 when I saw it but still... wasn't expecting it, it was on the same tape as the Library copy of The Fly I borrowed for research so I gave it a watch. It was funny because I remember people being creeped out at the cinema by Grant in Slither a few weeks later. I was sat there like "this is NOTHING..."

When I was really young Christopher Lloyd in Who Framed Roger Rabbit gave me nightmares... the half-man, half-toon version of his character. Still can't enjoy that film.

I remember seeing Society on BBC2 or something late at night when I was younger, it was probably the most warped/disturbing thing I had ever seen at the time and is still right up there in the bizarro stakes, despite the rubberyness in parts.

A Nightmare On Elm Street 2 is also one I remember scaring me when I was younger, the Freddy ripping out of the stomach scene in particular.

'Sometimes they come back again' scared me senseless as a 7 or 8 year old. I had horrible cousins... I remember the scene in Tremors where the workers drill into the ground and the blood oozes through the road making me feel extremely faint as a kid too, my cousin took great pleasure in just rewinding the VHS back a few seconds and showing me the scene over and over again.... Yeah, I was a total girl as preteen.

Suspiria is one of my all time favourites.

Have you seen 'Tenebrae'? I'd probably rate that as DA's best.

No my general disdain towards italian film (usually hate that full dubbing) has narrowed my horizons regarding Argento.

Re:controversial and extreme film thread... - 13 April 2012 06:54
I haven't seen The Ogre no, but I have seen The Church (which was also marketed as Demons 3 in certain areas I think) and Demons 4: The Sect which was a bit shit.  For the Arrow Release they commisssioned a graphic novel of "Demons 3" which properly continues the story rather than being a completely different thing which just has the Demons name bolted on for marketing.

What scared me as a kid?  When I was about 9 The Amityville Horror Part 2 absolutely terrified me. Was my first introduction to the idea of demonic possession and I've always been absolutely fascinated by it ever since.  Elm Street 3 came along a year or so later on VHS and that properly turned me on to horror - still think that's the best of the sequels.

Agree with Tenebrae, definitely one of Argento's best - although I was always more of a Fulci man myself

A bit late to the party, but "The People Under the Stairs" freaked me out a bit as a kid. Then there's all the usual ones like Poltergeist, Halloween. Halloween was actually made even scarier for me when a bookshelf collapsed while watching. Pants were shat.

I think its my favorite Arrow release so far.  The 70's gave the World the best exploitation flicks ever.

Anyone within spitting distance of London should make sure they get tickets for this!  Fulci's Gate's of Hell Trilogy (The Beyond, City of the Lving Dead, House by the Cemetary) all on the big screen back to back.  You lucky bastards!

I watched A Serbian Film for the first time the other day... just amazing! The ending was just absolutely brutal, right up my street :)

Can't be bothered to read the entire thread but I'm sure someone would have mentioned Irreversible (or anything by Gaspar Noé), Cannibal Holocaust, Ichi the Killer and all the obvious ones.

I've been downloading some budget horror films recently, haven't watched them yet but theres one called Antfarm Dickhole which is about a guy who has a colony of ants living in his dick. Then theres a zombie film set at a "special" school called Special Dead.

I'm not sure I could watch City... again. Does anyone seriously know what the Hell is going on at any given time? Its just like a bunch of scenes put together with no rhyme or reason. Would love to see The Beyond and House... on the big screen though!

Just found a Facebook group, Occupy Midian: http://www.facebook.com/groups/occupymidian/

campaigning for Morgan Creek to get their arses in gear and get the full 2.5hour extended cut of Clive Barker's Nightbreed released, restored to the way Clive intended before the studio hacked it to bits.  There's been talk of this happening for years, but it seems to be picking up momentum with a festival screening in March.  Sign the petition if you give a fuck!

Ahhhh, I've heard of this. I also heard plans of a sequel being made too?! Never really been much of a Clive Barker fan myself though. I'd much rather some studio find and release the full 3 hour version of LHODES. That'd be a trip!

I think it was a TV series rather than a sequel, but I love Clive Barker.  Books > Clive Barker directed films >>>>> other CB adaptations.

Haven't watched the restored version of LHODES yet, but with a week of Freeleech on Cinemageddon I now have enough trashy exploitation and horror on my PC to keep me going until the third or fourth coming of christ.

Absolutely, some of the stuff that floats around his head defies belief!

I really like Lovecraft, but he gets away with not having to describe the horrors in his work and instead falls back on the old 'so horrific it sent me mad' chestnut.  Whereas Clive describes the fuck out of the indescribable

I quite like the cover art he did for Fangoria a few years ago. That was pretty cool.

And definitely check out the restored LHODES if you have it, Hud. Its probably my favorite 70 horror flick, if not favorite horror flick of all time.

Probably in the 20 quid ballpark, Paul. I'd get the Troma release though. It has the 'American Nightmares' version of the film that I doubt will be on the Arrow release. The end of the AN version is insaaaaaane!
