Best and worst stadiums you've been to. 04 September 2011 19:04 (permalink)
As it is says on the tin, what are the best and worst stadiums you've been to and why?

Best: Highbury, because it was home.
Ashburton Grove, despite it not having a patch on Highbury for many reasons, is a terrific football stadium.
St Mary's - Southampton, really liked the place. Great day out.
Nene Park- Rushden and Diamonds- Terrific little non-league ground

Worst:
Withdean- Brighton and Hove Albion. Horrific stadium for football. You're miles from the pitch and the home supporters.
Kenilworth Road - Luton Town. An absolute shithole of the highest order.

    Best -
Celtic Park. Not called Paradise for nothing.
Tynecastle - always a good atmosphere with the crowd being so close to the pitch.

    Worst
Hampden Park - I just don't like it
Easter Road - This was way back before it got done up, it was a horrible place. It was raining, and I was given a yellow kagoul to wear.
Brockville, Falkirk - Horrible, horrible wee ramshackle stadium.

          Best:
Filbert Street - It was a shithole, but it was our shithole
City Of Manchester Stadium - Just a really nice stadium I thought, I can image it being better when it's not half empty though.
Giants Stadium (old) -  Really quick to get in and out of, people were really friendly upon hearing we were English, and it just seemed huge. Loved it.

          Worst:
I can't really think of any stadiums that I've been to that have been that bad really.  I've not been to many away games so that doesn't help.

            Best:
            Gigg Lane, obviously!
            The Emirates
            Parkhead
            Burton's new one, The Pirelli
The Galpharm is lovely, so is Bramhall Lane.
Expect to add Hillsborough and Deepdale aswell.

            Worst:

Accy Stanley - Terraced, uncovered, in the middle of december, not pleasant.
            Macclesfield - see above.
Luton Town - Absolute dump, in a horrible area and you have to walk through someones back garden to get to the away end.
            Rochdale's is pretty 'angin too.
The creme de la creme was Saltergate, Chesterfield's old ground. To say it was falling apart was an understatement. It was so outdated it was where the match scene in The Damned United were filmed. Another away end with no cover and terracing and even the home end had wooden benches. But the best part was the away toilets,

            Yeah I know.

              Two finals with Torquay.

Best: Wembley just took my breath away when I first stepped out in it, the concourse is utterly souless but at least you could get a drink without having to wait too long. I think it's a stunning piece of architecture and will be well worth the money in the long-run.

Worst: Old Trafford - More the occasion than anything else, shouldn't have been shifted up there (even the millenium or Villa park would have been reasonable, but no... OT is meant to have everyone drooling, the FA are such mugs), terrible turnout, bored out of my skull wandering about the club shop with my Utd supporting mate, the front is nicely designed (apart from the 19 getting in my shots of the ex-Liverpool captain's statue) and the Munich tunnel thing was pretty interesting, but the rest was pretty crap. At least they didn't make me sit down in those tiny seats. I'm sure it would be much better when full.

Mikey, terracing is a positive, not a negative. I hate having to sit for a football match. Standing encourages singing and unity.

I like sitting down at half time though, plus if the games crap I sit down too
I'm not opposed to terreacing, just uncovered terracing, the away end at Burton is awesome, under cover, terraced and a low roof for great acoustics.

Most places at half-time empty out enough for you to grab five minutes sat down at least and the good thing with terracing is that when the game's **** you are close enough to about 50 people to enjoy some decent banter.

Even OT is okay, I guess being accustomed to Plainmoor and Ladysmead (I like the formers' steps up to the popside and the latters pub in the ground) means I have low standards.

Going to Shrewsbury later in the month.

Very nice ground is Shrewsbury's. Them and Chesterfield are prime examples of how to get a new ground right.

Christ them away toilets you posted look like the sort of place you'd have a mugger waiting in there. I bet toilets in prison are a luxury compared to them.

I'd say, Molineux, Old Trafford and Nou Camp are the best stadiums I've ever visited.

Hednesford Town's is the worst I'd say.

Might as well add that in it's current state Stadium:MK is atrocious. Really needs to get finished.

New Wembley is spectacular. Don't rate it for gigs mind.

It's actually pretty cheap I gather, last I heard Camp Nou was €15 or so for the tour.

Would love to visit De Kuip, Feyenoord's stadium. Looks brilliant and has 5 star rating.
