4 years since they last played, and no new album. Heh, funny seeing people moan when headliners are booked again without a new album, yet request another.

You know I can't see a thread like this and say NO VAN HALEN WILL NOT PLAY. Instead of one of my long explanations though (and believe me, there are hundreds of reasons why they won't play), I just give you this: "I would book them if they stopped being dicks" - Andy Copping, 2012 RE Pearl Jam: With them sharing a band member, there must be some dialogue after Soundgarden played this year, but I would guess that's between Copping and management, not the band members. Does anyone know what Soundgarden's plans for 2013 are? That really is what will dictate what Pearl Jam can do.

defsteve ClownPrince Anyone else worried about three repeat headliners (again) Slipknot Maiden KISS Seems entirely possible. Only 1 repeat. Main Green Day, Pearl Jam, Slipknot 2nd Deftones, Scorpions, Paramore 2008 - Download turned down Kiss, had to ask them to play because their headliner pulled out. Download's least successful year. 2012 - Festival struggling with money problems ends up having to book Kiss (Sonisphere). Ticket sales so bad the festival is cancelled. Neither year would I place blame entirely on Kiss but that leaves me inclined to believe they aren't a band that will headline Download unless no other options are available to them. Defsteve seems a bit more on the money, but I don't think a Slipknot/Paramore clash would suit things. Might do it if they had do, but both are names that get attention in Kerrang, at one point got quite mainstream press coverage and have a core audience of the same age group. I can definitely see all those bands playing, I just don't think those two would be allowed to clash.

He said Eminem would go down quite a treat? Obviously taken with a pinch of salt.

Download's broadening the sounds it includes, but I don't think we'd get Eminem in 2013. Wait 5 years and if his career still exists, we might get him. The other thing with Slipknot is how much time they spend on hiatus for side-projects, and how long they take to record albums. When people say they've been touring the same material since 2008, that doesn't mean five years of Slipknot being on the road. They'd kill it if they headlined, guarantee it.

That line up would suit me, just get the Scorpions to clash with Deftones so I can see "the Scorps" [sm=thumb.gif]

People need to remember that AC's Twitter is his personal account and he likes/listens to/watches a lot more than just Download bands.

Soni cancelled in March. Andy had headliner confirmed in April. I was thinking that when Soni cancelled and Live Nation started talking to the acts about putting them on somewhere that conversation must of came up. But if Kiss do an Arena tour first half of next year, I don't see it happening.

Andy wants crossover acts, not totally out of genre ones. Although maybe he'd consider them if they were prepared to take a lower slot, and perhaps more importantly a lower fee.

It's exactly this - Jay-Z would be considered because of the Collision Course stuff he's done and teh fact that is now considered a cross-over act into the Rock scene.
