After last weekend, this is my one and only gig or festival I have planned so gonna make the most of it. Both in seeing bands and generally getting drunk and having a laugh.

my girlfriend isnt coming now trying to rope a mate into coming, we will be driving so if u and james wanted a lift to the fest from hamburg there will be some room in my car

Yeah, if you'll have room to give us a lift, that would be awesome. Could camp together then as well. Sure we could give you a few Euros for petrol from Hamburg as well.

Yeah that will be good, just hope I can persuade my mate to come otherwise ill have to drive halfway accross europe on my own

hey, 1st time posting on here about wacken, me and a few mates are thinking about going next year, has anyone gone through the coach package argon events do? its like £300 or abouts for the ticket and travel but i was wondering what its like on the coach and stuff, and whether it'ld be cheaper booking flights?

If you book a flight early enough, it should be cheaper than Argon. However, prices of flights are getting more expensive the closer to the date quite quickly nowadays. You want to be booking pre the new year really.
 
The coach will take around 24 hours depending where you're travelling from. I haven't used them for Wacken in years, however in the two years they did, they got hopelessly lost in Hamburg and circled around the city five or six times and on another occasion got pulled over by the police and we had to wait for a couple of hours whilst the drivers got reprimanded for something or another.
 
Its good in that it'll take you locally straight to the campsite but its easy enough to just do it yourself. If you do travel by plane, I do recommend at least one night in Hamburg before or after the festival as theres some damn good Rock/Metal bars in the St Pauli region.

No not yet sam got a couple of mates interested, I suspect ill be comin on my own again

I've given up asking mates of mine to go. They would always say they were up for it then drop put at the last minute. Usually with some lame excuse. Always managed to find people to camp and hang out with though.
 
On a band related note, Dio Disciples confirmed. They were pretty decent at Download a couple of years ago but got a stupidly short set so I'm up for seeing them get to play at least 45 minutes.

Thanks very much! how much is the one night in a hotel for say a twin room in hamburg? and when would you have to buy festival tickets? one of the things for me to go with argon is the deposit system, so we can pay it off throughout the year, your experiences sound quite **** but maybe they've improved as their doing quite a few festivals now, although for hellfest you have to make your own way through paris after eurostar to the next leg of the journey, which is just stupid.

sorry for all the questions, just thinking of getting it set in stone this year before people end up buying tickets for other festivals next year! 

We normally stop at the A&O on the Reeperbahn. Right next to all the good bars. About 50 to 60 Euros a night. So between two 25 to 30 Euros. Hotel is basic but does what it needs to do and like I say, is right where you want to be. U-Bahn station right outside that links direct to the airport if you to Hamburg Airport proper as well.
 
If buying festival tickets from the official site, you're talking about needing to get them before Christmas as its around then that it has been selling out in the past few years. 
 
Went with Argon last year to Hellfest which wasn't bad. Went on the ferry though so no mad dashing through the Paris underground like when we went by Eurostar the previous year..
 
Like I say, Argon is convenient in that it'll get you straight there...eventually. If you want to make the most of your trip to Germany though, I'd say get a flight and visit Hamburg whilst you're there.

Get a flight. That journey is the coach trip from hell.

Also waiting impatiently for the stage times so I can plan my festival only to totally disregard it.

Yeah will be good it will be good knowing what clashes I have don't think I have too many tho dio disciples I have a horrible feeling they will be clashing with someone I want to see, the other one is watain and ministry I think

Ideally, Dio Disciples would be the missing band on Thursday. More than likely, they're actually one of the missing bands on the party stage on the Friday.

Dio disciples are playing the headbanger stage on sat, I was thinking they be on the thurs aswell

See it now. Expected for them to play one of the bigger stages..
 
Yeah, thats probably even worse than being on the Friday. Balls. Wouldn't have minded seeing them but looks like they might clash with Ministry who already clashing with Watain. A possibilty they could clash with Machine Head and then the choice would be easy for me.
