Hi guys

Me and my mate are going this year - trying to get from Leeds

We think the best way is;
Train: Leeds > London
Eurostar: London > Cologne
Train: Cologne > Hamburg
Train: Hamburg > Wacken

Any help on if there is not only an easier way, but a cheaper one?

Thanks

How much is that setting you back?

I'd say a flight would be cheaper and easier, as long as you book it early enough - although it will be too late to get a reasonably priced flight now.

Yeah - we only decided we were going in the last few months though - rough prices
Train Leeds > London = £26 return
Eurostar to Cologne = £80 return
Cologne to Hamburg = €30? return

Train is Hamburg to Itzehoe (sp?) and then you get a shuttle bus/taxi to Wacken from there.

There is also a Wacken shuttle bus from Hamburg, believe you get tickets from the site.

You shouldn't have any problems getting a train there in time on a weekday. If you do however, shouldn't be a problem to stop at mine again on the Monday.

Looks like I may have to take up that offer Sam. A quick check has revealed that I'd have to make more changes on the earlier trains, meaning the journey time is longer. May try going from a different train station. I'll PM you once I know for sure.

        No worries.

Remember, if the train stops at Bedworth, you might as well get off there rather than Coventry.

I can get a train from King's Lynn to BHI at a fairly reasonable time in the moring. If I want to pay £180 for a return.....

          ....but I don't

I'll let you know train times once I've booked.

Thats over 50 quid what I paid to get to Hamburg and back....the rail network in this country is a joke.

Get a train to mine sometime on the Monday instead for what I assume should be considerably cheaper.

On a band related note, I might check out some of the Metal Battle bands this year. Some of them sound not too bad.

                      Few additions today.

Yaksa and Suffocated (both from China). Checked out the videos on the post announcing them and they seem quite good (Suffocated moreso). Betontod were added (which I can't say shocks me as I remember seeing tons of flyers for them last year). They will clash with Sacred Reich I think. The other announcement today is Jim Breuer will be back at Wacken, but it appears he will be with his band and will be on the True Metal Stage on the Thursday.

Apparently more announcements are coming soon - so I'm guessing when they come, the times will be out

Upcoming - Rush, Muse, Green Day, Download, The Wildhearts, Wacken, Roger Waters

                        Stage Times are up:

Couple of clashes spring to mind, Sacred Reich and Warbringer and Napalm Death and Paradise Lost.
On the up side Dio Disciples play when MH are on main stage and Decapitated are on the same time as the Boss Hoss.

                            Overkill clashing with Graveyard?

                            These are the bands I want to check out as it stands. Clashes and the time to get between stages notwithstanding;

Whilst I'm not going to put a bet on it or anything, I have a theory on whom the surprise act is.

On the Wacken main page, under the band news, there is an article basically advertising the new Blackmore's Night album. The band news section is usually reserved for bands playing Wacken.

Add to that they're in Germany over Wacken but not playing a date on the Saturday and it seems to me that it wouldn't be too far fetched to believe that they're the surprise act.

Forbidden have cancelled due to a member of the band leaving.

Apparently no replacement band and on second glance they appear to have been playing the tent but a fairly annoying loss.

As a HUGE Ritchie Blackmore/Deep Purple/Rainbow fan I'd love this to be true. However, don't know what the likelihood is as Blackmore's Night are far from being a hard rock/metal band and Ritchie hasn't done any primarily hard rock stuff since the last Rainbow record. However, I really like what Blackmore's Night do and think they could do down quite well.
