Car Park Restrictions
05 June 2012 16:29
( permalink)
Hi, I have a 5 night camping pass and a car park pass but if I get cold or wet will I be able to sleep in my van in the car park? I saw a post earlier on when someone was told that security would not allow them to do that but they only had a day pass so I presume they would have to leave the site anyway at a certain time. I would be really grateful if someone could let me know. Thanks

I'm fairly sure that the rule is no sleeping in cars for obvious security reasons. The exception is probably on the Sunday night when it's worth having a kip in your car waiting for the queues to get out of the car park to die down. If you get that cold and wet over the weekend then it's probably time to go home.

You will be asked to move on by security or police: NO ROGUE CAMPING - You will not be allowed to camp without a camping ticket! A camping ticket lasts for the whole weekend or just one night, it’s the same price. No rogue camping will be tolerated. You will not be permitted to sleep in your car, please expect a rude awakening if you try...! ^^^ that's from the main website

leave a bag of clothes and a towel in the car as an emergency bag, then if worst comes to worse, pop back, heater on, warm up change gear and carry on?

Met a couple this year who were sleeping in their car. No idea how they hadn't been caught. Had sleeping in it since the Thursday as their tent blew away

Not trying to be a rebel rouser, but this thread is hardly the epitome of rock and roll is it. 'No rogue camping!', and 'Expect a rude awakening from staff!' the masses shout Well, what if your girlfriend is adverse to tents due to an irrational fear of spiders, and you are not adverse to a wee drink? And you can't afford the ridiculous price for a Yukut or Teepee or whatever? Me and the missus have been to download two years running, and slept in our car both times, only for the one night mind, just enough to sleep of the effects and drive home to some real sleep. I would happily pay the extra for a caravan/campervan pass, if they didn’t sell out one whole year in advance! Note to Download organizers: allocate more caravan space and charge little more if necessary. Side note: Download festival kicks ass

I have slept in my car a few times over the years... In 2005 I was given a VIP weekend wristband from a friend who was a runner, as it was last minute I just travelled up there with no tent/spare clothes etc and slept in the car with no problems. Sunday night most years I get a couple hours kip in the car. I think if security noticed you you'd be moved on (unless you had a pretty valid reason and they had some common sense) but look at how many cars are there! Plus the original post said van so much less likely to be noticed than in a car (unless of course you're planning to have a campervan in the car park?)

That will be fine, obviously as long as you have your wristbands on to get back through to the village etc then you can come and go as you please.

I've literally spent the last hour trying to find out this information, never been DL before and bringing my car, plan was to leave everything except my tent, go and pitch up, then go back and fetch all my gear from the car but was uncertain if I'd be allowed back in/out of the campsite and carpark areas. Now I know, lifesaver!
