Most loved and most hated poets? 18 March 2012 00:46 (permalink)
I was wondering what your most loved/most hated poets are and why? Essentially I'm just looking for more things to read, so the lesser known, the better. Here are mine:

Most loved:

E. E. Cummings - Disjointed style, feels like his poems are a blurry collection of thoughts.
E. A. Poe - Tends to be morbid and over-dramatic...somehow likeable.
O. Wilde - Generally one of the most amazing writers ever, in my opinion.
C. Bukowski - Pretty plain and blunt about everything. Makes a nice, distinct change from most poetry.
S. Heaney - Love his poems based on family. Always admired close-knit families.

Most hated:

C. A. Duffy - Just - Argh! As much as I love her take on fairytales and myths, her opinions and views just wind me up. She's also really dull if you've ever heard her do a live reading.
W. Blake - No real explanation. Just don't particularly like his work. At all.

I realise this may be a long shot seeing as poetry doesn't seem all that popular nowadays, but hey. Worth a try. XD

Im more into spoken word. Not sure if that counts. Shane Koycza, some of the stuff Rollins comes out with is quite funny.

If im going for a classic's W.B. Yeats

I'd count it. Was never really into spoken word but I'll give it a shot.[/:)]

I really enjoy avant garde style of poetry. I quite enjoy Andrew Freiman.

Hehe, I tend to like classics, as is pretty obvious from my first post, but as with everything, you tend to get bored when you have nothing new to try.

There was actually a spoken word performance group a friend of mine tried to drag me to, but I get insane stagefright. XD I think they run them across the country, but they're a bit awkward to find.

              Do you write? :]

I find it hard to come across spoken word places, and they can vary drastically, depending on the speaker.

Lord Byron, She Walks In Beauty is worth a read.
Ginsberg´s Howl is brilliant. Hurricane Drunk, I didn´t know Kerouac wrote poetry, is it any good?
                Also like Keats.
Most of Henry Rollins´s spoken word too.

There's a fair amount of them running in Leicestershire...But they were all workshop-type things where people wrote poetry and performed it in The Curve theatre in town.

I do write...But that's a secret. Tends to be personal/theraputic for me, so I've only ever shared with my old best friend. He was a serious poet so I trusted him. XD

XD Haha no worries! I have/had several secret blogs (not very active on them...at all). A friend told me to start one but I figured it was better to keep some things separate so it wasn't a mash of randomness.

I've practically abandoned them for now, but one was creative and one was personal, i.e. perfect for raging and things like that. :P Could be a suggestion to tidy things up a bit before you add more to your blog?
