Feeder, Black Sabbath, System Of A Down. First year of the three day Download Festival - what are your memories of 2005?

My first year.  My first festival.   <3
 
Armed with the tiniest of tents and a pair of new rocks, I learnt the hard way :p
 
SOAD completely stole the weekend for me and I met some of the most amazing folk from this here forum.  7 years on, and still here we are :)

think the sun came out for about 40 minutes that weekend. Was the first year i made the walk to the Co-op.

been 2 all dl,s n this was the first full weekend n camping, ive been hooked ever since though i stay in a caravan now 2 rest my old bones but miss the madness of standard camp apart from the 5am class A crew.billy idol in the tent was fantastic even though i find him cheesy the atmos was electric n i loved it. trivium opening the main stage was without doubt epic. socioty 1 with the singer swinging from hooks for 35min was worth a watch. very disapointed with ozzy reading off an autocue for most of the set only 2 look up every now and again 2 say clap them fcukin hands ,will u go crazy bla bla. soad were by far the highlight of the weekend and magic mushrooms on sale for the last time before they got reclassified

Remember thinking how much Megadeth stood out on that weak Friday main stage line-up and being worried that Download would be diluted with all sorts of indie rubbish on the Friday (glad I was wrong about that in future years), meeting Phil Jupitus just walking around the festival, being pleasantly surprised at how good Billy Idol was, seeing Anthrax with Belladonna and the original Sabbath which were the highlights of the weekend by far and being quite annoyed Nightwish making up some BS reason as to why they were late and could only play 4 songs when it became clear afterward they were saving Tarja's voice for the Golden Gods awards the next night.

Was my first festival. did the walk to the co-op. made the mistake of not drawing out any money before then and the cash machine swallowed my card! I could have died, had to borrow money to survive the rest of the festival but it was amazing.

First year thet I met any of the forum gang. We gathered together to form camp oofa and had the collective age of 1246856421564159674 years. Lots of rennie and ibuprofed were passed around that year.

My first festival experience and it was amazing. Things I will remember:
 
* Trivium- First band I ever saw live
* AHC- My first mosh pit (it was intense!)
* The savage bottle wars, still to this day never experienced anything as bad
* Waiting for Lamb of God in the tent watching a band I'd never heard of. BFMV: Awful then, awful now
* Consuming my body weight in dust over the weekend
* Nearly getting killed when Slipknot played Before I Forget
 
All in all a brutal yet awesome way to be introduced to live music
 
 

The first year I camped at download, such a party in the Campsite. Met so many people that year although didnt get there until the Friday due to GCSE's
 
Highlights were seeing Sabbath, SOAD and trivium tear the mainstage a new one at 11 o clock in the Morning. UNREAL how many circle pits the had going so early on in the day.

This was my first Download, and if I'm honest I didn't want to come, as I wasn't into metal, but my son wanted to come for his 14th Birthday.  
 
First band we saw was Flogging Molly on the second stage from that point onwards I was hooked, have been back every years since (with the exception of 2007, he had GCSE's couldn't go without him).
 

Slipknot followed by SOAD on the main stage. Just amazing. 
 
This was also the one and only year I camped in Blue. Since then we've gradually moved to quieter and quieter spots until we've ended up in the campervan field :)

Trivium 11am Saturday morning were amazing. Slipknot as usual were ace. SOAD were good 2011 but thie 2005 performance was better. Sabbath,Velvet Revolver, Flogging Molly, Slayer.

The first year with 3 days of bands and 5 days of camping - was awesome!!
Had such a good time in the camp site - there were so many of us from Chester, Northampton, Milton Keynes and Hartlepool/Sunderland - a massive group that all had a great time!  This was the last year you could legally buy real magic mushrooms that weren't "prepared" (from the stalls in the village), and I had a VERY funny Thursday night with a couple of my mates - possibly the BEST night I've had at ANY of the Download fests I've been to!
As for the bands, Friday was a good start - enjoyed Fozzy, Lordi, Megadeth and Napalm Death - had a lot of fun watching that set!  Was also good getting back to the camp site (keeping in mind there was such a big group of us) and everyone swapping stories of their evening (as others had gong to watch Billy Idol) and getting pissed, staying up until 6-7am!
Saturday I remember not seeing as many of the bands as I wanted to, as me and my then g/f at the time both got a bit drunk and ended up having an argument, but that argument ended when we bumped into a couple of other friends who weren't part of our campsite group, and sharing a few drinks with them... the day got better from there and Lamb of God were EPIC, and Sabbath were great too.
Sunday was a good day too, spent largely with my g/f and a couple of mates who had only made it for that day (day tickets), although was immensely disappointed to leave the Slayer pit early only to find that Funeral for a fkn Friend were that years secret band >:-]
Slipknot and System were awesome though and a great way to end the festival.
I also remember laughing my head off in my tent on the Monday morning as we could hear sooo many people all waking up in their tents and phoning into work sick!!

My first Download. Loved The Used, Papa Roach, Funeral for a Friend, Slipknot, Feeder and My Chemical Romance. Don't remember much from it otherwise, feels like such a long time ago.

I remeber seeing nightwish, they were awesome! and then system of a down - my first mosh pit! Some big muscle guys just pulled me out of the mosh pit - apparently i looked like i was gonna collapse! Was still awesome though!
